What is it?

This is an 11 week long Summer camp for aspiring teen writers ages 13+ to learn how to write, edit, and bring their work to the publishing market. By the end of the camp, Teens will have the opportunity to get their finished piece published.
The camp will feature workshops taught by published author and librarian Amber Bliss. Amber has a Masters of Fine Arts in Writing Popular Fiction. We will also have additional authors and publishing industry professionals as guest teachers. We will be meeting virtually twice a week for 11 weeks, and additional writing or reading work may need to be done between meetings.

Weekly Schedule

Week 1:  Begin writing and listen to author guest speakers

week 2 -4: Continue writing and listen to guest author speakers

Week 5& 6: Workshopping and peer review

Week 7 & 8: Critique partners & editing

Week 9: Editing

Week 10: Final edits are due and publishing professional guest speakers

Week 11: Virtual live reading event and final product created.

How do I apply?

Due to limited space in the program, we ask that all interested teens fill out an application. We are looking for teens who are passionate about creative writing and are interested in learning about how to turn this into a career. The Camp is a commitment of 11 weeks twice a week for 2 hours with additional self-paced writing and reading between sessions. If you are not able to meet these requirements you will not be eligible to participate. To apply click the link above!

What do I get?

By the end of the 11 weeks, you will have a final product ready for publication. If we get enough participants we will create an anthology that will be placed in RI libraries. If there is not enough work to publish in-house we will walk you through the submission and publication process for appropriate markets.
You will also have learned a substantial amount from writers and industry professionals on how to navigate this field and produce more publication quality writing.

This project was made possible in part by a grant from the RI Office of Library and Information Services using funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
