Elevator Modernization
With the support of the Champlin Foundation, the West Warwick Public Library will be modernizing its elevator this fall. This upgrade is anticipated to begin on
Thursday, September 10 and is estimated to take approximately eight weeks.
While elevator construction is underway, the elevator will be out of service and the second floor and basement levels of the library will only be accessible by stairs. This will impact several regular programs and services; some programs and services may be paused, rescheduled, moved to other areas of the library, or offered with additional accommodations. This page may be updated over the course of construction as more information becomes available.
Paused Programs
The following programs will be paused while the elevator is out of service and will return once construction is complete:
-
Sweatin' to the Music (both Tuesday and Thursday classes)
-
Bingo
-
Computer Classes
-
One-on-One Tech Support Sessions
Moved Programs
The following programs will meet in the Book Nook while the elevator is out of service:
-
Pathfinder for All
-
Senior Tech Social Group
-
Adult Book Group
-
Monthly Adult Craft
-
Adult Crafternoon
Additional Accommodations
Passport Services will continue to be held on the second floor of the library unless accommodation is needed. If you are applying for a passport or accompanying someone to an appointment and the stairs present a barrier, please contact the Passport Office at 401-828-3720 ext. 4 and accommodations will be made.
Other programs will proceed in their scheduled locations. If the stairs present a barrier for you or someone in your care and you would like to seek an accommodation for a specific program, please contact us at info@wwpl.org or 401-828-3750.
Adult Computer Access
The computers in the Adult Services Department on the second floor will continue to be available during elevator construction. While the elevator is out of service, the library will also host pop-up computer lab hours in the Book Nook for those who cannot access the second floor without the elevator.
Due to staffing limitations, the pop-up computer lab will only be available at the following times:
-
Mondays: 10 AM to 2 PM
-
Tuesdays: 10 AM to 2 PM
-
Wednesdays: 12 PM to 4 PM
-
Thursdays: 12 PM to 4 PM
-
Fridays: 10 AM to 2 PM
There will be a limited number of computers available for use during these times. We ask that patrons be mindful of the needs of others and use this service only if the stairs present a significant barrier to access.
Patrons should note that the computers in the Youth Department are strictly reserved for children and teens only, and that adults who are not accompanying children will be asked to leave the department per the Safe Child Policy.
Donations
If you would like to donate materials (books, movies, games, craft supplies, etc.) during elevator construction please call ahead. The library may reject large donations during construction. All other donations (food or monetary donations) will be accepted as usual according to library policy.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your patience.
If you are in need of additional accommodation during this or any other time,
please contact the Library Director at 401-828-3750.
